At Puhl we develop custom solutions for new installations, and we can solve problems with your existing systems, big or small. Recently a new customer called us in to evaluate why their ductwork and blowers were literally vibrating and falling apart after running for about 2 years. The solution required that we keep the plant running while solving the issue. Upon inspection, Puhl determined that the vibration issue was caused by underdesigned blower platforms and duct supports. The design engineer had not sufficiently accounted for the effects of rotating mass inherent to material handling blowers. In addition, the original blowers were the wrong type for heavy corrugated scrap conveying and were self-destructing. The solution required engineered duct supports, replacing 10 blowers with Puhl heavy duty blowers, two new blower platforms and two cyclone inlet access platforms. No small task on two above roof 18 ft. diameter cyclones in a running operation. Puhl also improved the existing cyclone/blower maintainability, safety and performance by adding internal spirals in the cyclones, adding cone access doors with safety limit switches, adding plug detection alarm systems at each of the cones and relocating the inlets with new OSHA compliant platforms. Access to the blower platforms was improved with OSHA compliant ladders at key access points. Customer feedback has been very positive.
