EMBA Ultima: Redefining Performance and Efficiency in Corrugated Box Production

The corrugated packaging industry is in the midst of a technological transformation, driven by the need for greater efficiency, flexibility, and sustainability. At the forefront of this evolution stands EMBA’s Ultima technology platform, which has set new benchmarks for performance throughout its entire portfolio, from mini lines all the way up to the 2.9-meter FFG segment.

A Platform Built for Progress

Since the introduction of the EMBA 295 Ultima, the company has continuously expanded its capabilities. Built on the same vigorous technical foundation as EMBA’s other Ultima machine sizes, the 295 Ultima now offers a comprehensive selection of configuration options. This flexibility ensures that both one-stop-shop converters and high-volume plants can tailor the machine to their unique production needs, unlocking new levels of operational efficiency.

HighBox: Versatility for Niche Markets

One of the standout innovations is EMBA’s HighBox feature, originally developed for the 215 Ultima and now available on the 295. HighBox enables unprecedented versatility, particularly for producers serving niche markets such as tube boxes and flat packages. The technology allows for unlimited box height — even up to the machine’s full skip-feed length — managed entirely automatically with a single-button setup. Normally, increasing box height may require manual removal and reinstallation of slotting knife segments, especially for skip-feed operations. The unique HighBox option eliminates this bottleneck by employing independently cam-operated slotting knives, precisely controlled by EMBA’s Ultima servo intelligence. This innovation ensures seamless, fully automatic setup, even for complex box formats — without compromising with quality or setup efficiency.

DualBox: Doubling Output, Minimizing Waste

Another game-changing advancement is EMBA’s DualBox system, which is also available for the 295 Ultima. Leveraging the company’s true Non-Crush Converting, DualBox enables the simultaneous TwinFeed processing of two shorter sheets per machine revolution. The four-shaft slotter then converts both sheets into fully finished, identical boxes in a single pass. This approach not only doubles output without sacrificing quality or register accuracy but also removes the need for trim waste, versus a cut-to-size process. Additionally, by maintaining the ability to optimize corrugator deckle width with smaller TwinFeed sheets, manufacturers can achieve substantial cost savings also here, compared to conventional doubling-up methods. The result: less material waste, faster setup times, and a measurable boost in productivity.

Conclusion: Unparalleled Opportunities

The EMBA 295 Ultima — and indeed the entire Ultima machine range — offers a compelling combination of technical innovation and commercial advantage. Whether the goal is maximum versatility, high-volume throughput, or overall operational efficiency, EMBA’s Ultima platform empowers corrugated box producers to meet the demands of today’s dynamic market.
