The Foundation for Packaging Education’s inaugural fundraiser kicked off with a reception on the evening of Tuesday, November 8. Nearly 80 attendees met at The Sanctuary resort on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, to celebrate and support industry education for those employed in the paper-based converting industries.

On Wednesday, golfers played the challenging Osprey Point course on Kiawah, while the nongolfers went on an excursion to nearby Charleston. They toured homes and gardens and had a wonderful Lowcountry lunch at the renowned High Cotton restaurant, followed by shopping on nearby Market Street.

A reception and dinner awaited the returning golfers and those on the Charleston excursion. Foundation for Packaging Education Chair Jay Carman reminded everyone of the foundation’s mission: to ensure the longevity and ongoing development of education and training programs for those working in the industry. Education and training are vital to employee retention and employee satisfaction.

Thursday dawned windy and rainy. The day’s plan was for golfers to play the Ocean Course at Kiawah, site of the 2021 PGA Championship. Twelve hearty golfers (about one-third of the planned group) braved Tropical Storm Nicole’s outer bands and took to the golf course, a bucket list experience to be sure.

Supporters of the Foundation for Packaging Education gathered for two rounds of golf at Osprey Point (above) and the PGA-level Ocean Course on Kiawah Island, South Carolina.

The nongolfing crowd enjoyed brunch within The Sanctuary, one of the most luxurious resort properties on the East Coast.

All too soon, the three-day event was over. The funds raised will be added to the more than $1.3 million the foundation has already raised and will push the pledged number closer to $3 million.

The foundation would like to thank all who attended the event and most importantly the event sponsors: Domtar Packaging, Equipment Finance Corp., and Fosber America Inc.

The Foundation for Packaging Education’s 32 donor companies and individuals have pledged more than $2.7 million to the foundation’s cause. To learn more about the foundation and to join the growing list of donors, please visit www.packaginged.org.

This will be an annual event with a late October or early November time frame. Plans are underway for next year, which will bring the foundation’s donors, supporters, and friends to another exciting location and another unique experience.
