Southern California-based Superior Litho will be installing a new Koenig & Bauer Rapida 164 64 seven-color offset press at its 110,000-square-foot facility—the Superior’s fourth Rapida press.

The new press “will provide a massive 50% increase in capacity,” said Superior Founder and CEO Doug Rawson, “and will help to train our operators on next-gen technology similar to our recent Rapida 145 addition. The new press will also dramatically decrease our make-ready times by 50%.”

In other Koenig & Bauer news, Regional Customer Service Specialist John D. Starratt Jr. was able to help a customer increase production by 20%, reduce make-ready by 40%, and provide overall improvements in press speed, downtime, and quality.

“My initial review was that the press crew needed to improve their standard procedures to operate the press, and we needed to re-train for better utilization of the press,” said Starratt. “Within a short amount of time, all of the numbers greatly improved. The press was displaying exceptional run speeds and increased throughput.”

Of Koenig & Bauer’s customer service standards, Sales Director Service Select Michael Eichler said, “Employing our team’s proactive advisory role, we’re able to make recommendations to the customer and point out particular . FRIESE GmbH and SHARP International will consolidate to form FRIESE North America LLC, which will be based in Virginia with Randy Banks and Christian Rodriguez handling the day-to-day operations.

“This is the first step in laying the groundwork for a regrind facility in the United States to service our growing base of North American customers” said Sven Siepmann, CEO of FRIESE GmbH.

“From the first time I met the FRIESE family we have been discussing a manufacturing facility in North America,” added Banks, “and I could not be more pleased to be a part of this critical next step in our growth strategy.”


Chuck Slingerland

Barberán welcomed Chuck Slingerland to its U.S. operations team as its new vice president.

Slingerland has spent the last 10-plus years working at Abbott Action. For five years he supported and lead the company’s digital group. Prior to Abbott Action, he spent 12 years with CSW Inc.

In Slingerland’s role at Barberán, he will be responsible for helping to grow the company’s client base and presence in U.S. markets.


Premier Packaging recently launched a new podcast, titled “Premier Power Hour,” that will explore trends in the packaging industry and highlight the company’s people, products, and services.

The podcast “is designed to be an informative, entertaining look at what’s happening at Premier and in the packaging industry today,” said Premier CEO John Gaynor. “In addition to useful information, we think listeners will really enjoy the way Billy [Watkins] and Zach [Pearson] play off each other.”
