width=1000width=284width=295Strategy and management consultancy firm McKinsey’s latest figures on the global packaging industry give a figure of $900 billion and upwards in annual revenues worldwide. Equally the corrugated sector is rapidly increasing with estimates of global corrugated shipments already reaching unsurpassed levels. It is no secret that we are seeing rapid change in the behavioral patterns of consumers, brands and retailers. Underlying forces such as the exponential growth of e-commerce, changing consumer preferences, FMCG and retail margin compression backed right up to the converters and an increasing pressure on sustainability are driving creative innovation in the digitization of packaging and demand for ever higher levels of efficiency and flexibility.

Earlier this year Xeikon and its parent company the Flint group formally announced the launch of an innovative, digital platform called IDERA. The single-pass digital press, built for speed and productivity, uses food-safe, water-based inks on corrugated sheets up to 63 inches wide by 110 inches long at up to 492 ft per minute on uncoated board. This choice of press is Xeikon’s solution for the needs of the corrugated box market where lot sizes continue to decrease, sustainability is a priority and demand for flexibility, high quality and creative, personalized graphics on boxes and displays is growing apace.

In developing IDERA, Xeikon utilized the digital manufacturing knowledge and corrugated experience of its parent company, Flint. The Flint Group already had a deeper understanding of the corrugated market as the number one supplier of inks for this sector. Xeikon is a respected and long-standing leader and innovator in digital printing technology, designing and developing digital color presses for label and packaging applications as well as document and commercial printing. Their printing machines work with different imaging technologies, both dry toner and inkjet, Xeikon’s powerful open workflow software and application specific consumables. The most important thing to recognize about Xeikon is that the company is streets ahead in terms of knowledge of all digital processes, digital production and the impacts on the complete supply chain. With more than 30 years of innovation and experience in digital printing today they are recognized as a trusted, technology agnostic advisor in the digital transformation that print manufacturing processes are undergoing. Xeikon is now bringing its knowledge and expertise to the corrugated market with its digital manufacturing solution – IDERA. Xeikon believes it’s not just about choosing the right equipment, it’s about working with a trusted partner.
