JB Machinery held its 2019 National Sales Meeting for the Americas recently at Abbott-Action’s Attleboro, Mass., manufacturing facility.

Abbott-Action CEO Sam Abbott welcomed JB Machinery with an address on the benefits of partnerships in the industry. The meeting also included a presentation by Chuck Slingerland, Abbot-Action’s vice president of sales and digital operations, on Abbott-Action’s digital experience, journey to print excellence, and the complementary culture that includes both digital and analog.

“We are very thankful to Sam Abbott, Chuck Slingerland, and everyone at Abbott-Action for hosting our meeting and for their contributions to the educational portion of our meeting content,” says Warren Bird, president of JB Machinery.

Jeff Neely, owner of The Shopper, and his new Xante En/Press Multimedia Digital Press.

The Shopper, a printing and publishing company in Shelton, Wash., was delivered their Xante En/Press multimedia digital press and Enterprise high-speed feed system.

The En/Press and its iQueue software has improved workflow for The Shopper’s mail preparation business, which recently completed a 3,000-piece mailer project on the Xante press for a local realtor.

“With our old way of printing, I had to buy expensive open-flap envelopes and only run a few at a time,” says Jeff Neely, owner of The Shopper. “Now, on the En/Press, I can load 1,000 regular envelopes on the Enterprise feeder and just print away. I finish sooner, and my customers are happier.”


Axis Corrugated Container appointed David Fink as director of sales.

“We are thrilled to have a professional of David’s caliber lead our sales development efforts,” says Axis President Clark Casson. “David is an impact player that brings us keen team leadership skills along with in-depth packaging experience.”


C&M Conveyor and Ohio Blow Pipe appointed CEO Brett Jaffe, who brings with him 25 years of experience and in-depth knowledge leading manufacturing organizations in both the public and private sectors.

“Given Brett’s knowledge and expertise, he will be a great leader for the combined company,” says former CEO Don Laipple.

Sam Karavedas

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries America (MHIA) promoted Mike Keidel to senior manager, engineering, and hired Sam Karavedas as parts sales manager.

Keidel, who will lead the MHIA’s engineering department has spent his 30-year career at MHIA, holding several positions from project engineer to operations manager.

Karavedas will lead the parts sales department to ensure timely customer deliver of parts and service. He has 20 years of experience in the industrial parts distribution industry.


SkillsUSA

Winners of the high school- and college-level graphic communications competition at the 55th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

The Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF), managed by the Association for PRINT Technologies (APTech), awarded medals to graphic communications winners at the 55th Annual SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference.

Competition contestants worked against the clock to complete challenges in several competencies, including digital press, digital workflow, finishing, offset press simulator operations, oral professional assessment, and production planning.

Winners are as follows:

High School Level

Gold: Jordan Martin, S&W Washtenaw Consortium, Saline, Mich.

Silver: Nicholas Forsyth, Franklin County Career and Technology Center, Chambersburg, Pa.

Bronze: Donald Duca, Norwich Technical high School, Norwich, Conn.

 

College Level

Gold: Jade Milloy-Cobb, Illinois Central College, East Peria, Ill.

Silver: Hunter Steed, Augusta Technical College, August, Ga.

Bronze: Gage Shupard, Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, Lancaster, Pa.
