W. H. Leary Co. confirmed a new partnership with the Bydgoszcz, Poland-based Versor Engineering, making W. H. Leary the preferred supplier of gluing and inspection systems for Versor’s folder-gluers.

“There is growing pressure in the industry to reduce machine setup time and improve overall carton quality,” says W. H. Leary Director of Sales Chris Leary. “This collaboration with Versor allows us to better integrate our system into their folder-gluer and gives the operator a smarter finishing line.”


For the 16th year, the Flexible Packaging Association is holding its 2020 Student Flexible Packaging Design Challenge, and the call for entries is open.

The challenge for students is to develop a flexible packaging solution that addresses a packaging issue, such as consumer convenience or food protection, and entries should aim to make an improvement over an existing flexible package, covert a non-flexible package into a flexible package, or package a product that’s not yet available in flexible packaging. The first-place winner will receive $1,000, and the second-place entry will garner $500.

Concept outlines are to be submitted by no later than September 27. Students can submit their concepts at www.flexpack.org.

Customers can call the line at 908-791-2336 at any time between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, for quick access to answers.

In other MacDermid news, the company will be exhibiting at Labelexpo Europe 2019 in Brussels, Belgium, from September 24 through 27, and will be introducing its new LAVA® NW-M thermal processing unit to the European market. MacDermid will also debut its expnded LUX® ITP™ flat-top dot plates to include LUX ITP 60, LUX ITP M, and the company’s newest plate, the LUX ITP EPIC®.


Greif Inc. has been honored with a gold rating in sustainability performance by EcoVadis, an independent rating agency specializing in the evaluation of corporate social responsibility, for a second straight year. Greif scored in the top 4% of all companies evaluated by EcoVadis.

Valco Melton has acquired the Brazilian PaperCor de Comércio de Importação e Exportação Ltda as part of the company’s strategy to expand offerings to customers in Latin America.

Xanté’s EnVite® Multimedia Digital Press

Xanté’s EnVite® Multimedia Digital Press was a huge hit with attendees of the National Stationery Summit in August in New York City, drawing hundreds of stationery shop owners and employees to marvel over its easy operation, powerful iQueue® workflow software, and low cost of production.

“We wanted to show stationery shop owners how an in-house printing resource could dramatically impact their bottom line and enhance customer satisfaction,” says Xanté President and CEO Robert Ross. “EnVite did just that.”


Signode Industrial Group will introduce its new brand at Pack Expo in late September, and the company’s senior executives will be present to discuss the impact of the new identity and value the new brand will foster.

“We are looking forward to introducing our new brand identity at Pack Expo,” says Signode Director of Global Marketing Mike Stein. “This is the largest show in the packaging industry, and it offers us a great platform to share our new direction with many of our key customers and supply chain partners.”

Koenig & Bauer completed its first North American installment of its Omega Allpro 90 folder-gluer at Canadian packaging specialist Ellis Paper Box in Mississauga, Ontario. The Omega line of folder-gluers, originally by Duran, which Koenig & Bauer recently acquired, is said to deliver maximized productivity and profitability.

“When Koenig & Bauer purchased Duran and its Omega products, it seemed to be an ideal situation for both parties,” says Dave Ellis, president of Ellis Group, which owns Ellis Paper Box. “I believe Koenig & Bauer will continue to be a very important partner to the Ellis Group for many years.”
