Baldwin Technology – BW Converting Advancements in Curing, Drying, and Plate-Cleaning Technologies

In 2024, Baldwin Technology’s advanced curing, drying, and plate-cleaning solutions gained widespread traction within the corrugated industry. The company’s ongoing investments in cutting-edge technology such as the Ultra-Wide FlexoCleanerBrush™ and FlexoDry Infrared Drying System have played a pivotal role in this growth.

The demand for improved quality, operational efficiency, and reduced downtime, combined with the need for a safer work environment, has fueled interest in Baldwin’s products from box manufacturers.

“As we listen to what the market needs, our product offerings are yielding significant benefits for our clients as they address challenges like labor shortages, increasing quality demands, and the need for greater productivity,” said Craig Black, Baldwin’s Vice President of Sales. “By significantly reducing manual processes, scarce labor resources can be reallocated to more value-added tasks, increasing uptime and ultimately driving higher output and profits.”

Recognized as a best-in-class product is Baldwin’s Ultra-Wide FlexoCleanerBrush. This fully automated flexo plate-cleaning system, which can span up to 126 inches (3.2 meters), enhances print quality and increases worker safety in corrugated operations. The system swiftly removes dust and debris from the plate without halting production, and its end-of-job cleaning and drying cycles take just under four minutes. This results in more uptime, lower consumable costs, and significantly increased capacity. Its ability to fully dry plates on-press eliminates the need for additional steps, further boosting productivity.

By eliminating manual interaction with wash agents and reducing the risk of injury at the cylinder nip, the FlexoCleanerBrush enhances safety. Its carbon-fiber core ensures consistent, even cleaning across the full width of the plate, while keeping the system lightweight.

The FlexoDry Infrared (IR) drying system is another key offering, delivering improved press throughput, faster production speeds, and reduced energy consumption. Its Diamond-lamps, with specialized ceramic reflectors, focus IR radiation directly onto the substrate, enabling energy savings of up to 30% compared with conventional IR lamps.

“Beyond our technological leadership, our commitment to customer service drives us to continue to innovate our offerings and invest in resources that support the evolving needs of the market,” added Black.
